There are over 300 koalas on the island, so visitors normally have no difficulty spotting them in the trees.  There are also kangaroos, echidnas and 140 bird species.

For visitors, there are walkways and bicycle paths that lead to viewing platforms.  Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy watching the swans, pelicans and ducks.

The silt jetties on the Mitchell River stretch for almost 10 kilometres and are the longest of their type in the world.

Visitors can drive or ride a bicycle along an 8 kilometre trail and enjoy the scenery, indulge in fishing, swimming or possibly just relax with a picnic.

Sunset Cove

Sunset Cove is right near the park and is the perfect spot to have a relaxing BBQ, picnic, swim and even to throw in a line. The ideal spot to enjoy the water and unwind for the afternoon. There is a park for the kids with swings and a sandy spot to enjoy building sandcastles. Sunset Cove is also the start of a walking track that takes you along the water. Walk, run, take the dog or even ride your bike, this track is a must to walk or ride to see a beautiful side of Paynesville
